ST. LOUIS – Investigators with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department say a Louis Vuitton bag helped them connect an 18-year-old to a shooting last month in the city’s Baden neighborhood.

According to a police probable cause statement, the shooting happened on Jan. 12 in the 8800 block of North Broadway.

Police said the victim had walked out of the Convenience Express store when Jayden Garrett, 18, approached him in the street and began shooting at him. The victim was struck several times, including in the head. The victim survived the shooting but was impaired.

The shooting was captured on surveillance video.

Garrett was arrested and jailed on Feb. 3 for weapons charges and other offenses. Police said Garrett was wearing the same clothes at the time of his arrest that he wore during the shooting. In addition, Garrett was carrying a distinctive Louis Vuitton bag.

Police said Garrett identified himself from a still photo taken from the surveillance video of the shooting.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Garrett with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He remains jailed on the other offenses.
