LAKE ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has been activated to assist with the investigation of an elderly woman’s death in Lake St. Louis.

The victim, a 79-year-old woman, was found deceased at a home around 11 a.m. Saturday as the Lake St. Louis Police Department responded to a welfare check.

Before that, a neighbor had informed police that the woman had not been seen for nearly two weeks.

When police arrived at the home, it was locked and secured. A neighbor who had a key allowed police to enter, where they found the woman dead inside.

The Major Case Squad notes that the exact cause of the woman’s death has not been determined, though the case is currently being investigated as a homicide.

The victim’s identity has also been withheld pending family notification.

The Major Case Squad is following up on several leads and says this is an ongoing, active investigation.
