ST. LOUIS – One man is in custody and police continue an investigation into another individual following a pursuit that ended in the River Des Peres in south St. Louis Friday afternoon.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers noticed a vehicle driving erratically on Broadway. They tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle did not comply.
Instead, the car continued driving erratically, striking a bicyclist and side-swiping an occupied car. The driver and passenger of the vehicle exited the car and began to flee on foot.
According to police, the driver of the suspect vehicle jumped into the River Des Peres near River City Casino in an attempt to escape.
SLMPD was assisted by St. Louis County Police and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The suspect was taken into custody for felony fleeing and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident.
Police added that the passenger of the vehicle is not in custody. They are continuing their investigation to identify the passenger.
The bicyclist that was struck was transported to the hospital and is listed in stable condition. There were no injuries in the vehicle that was side-swiped. No officers were injured.
