ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Richmond Heights man appeared in St. Louis County Circuit Court on Monday after being charged in connection with a fatal car theft.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the crime took place around 8:40 p.m. on May 6, in the 5300 block of Fletcher Street, located in Jennings.
Officers found Darryl Mischeaux in the driveway of his home, suffering from a gunshot wound. Mischeaux was rushed to the hospital but later died of injuries. He was 36.
Police claim Terry Thomas, 19, and others went to Mischeaux’s home to steal his Kia Stinger. During the theft, the car’s alarm went off. When Mischeaux came to check his vehicle, Thomas and his cohorts confronted Micheaux and shot him.
Thomas and the others allegedly left the area in the stolen Kia and another vehicle.
Police claim cellphone records put Thomas near the scene around the time of the shooting, and say Thomas destroyed his phone after learning he was under investigation.
Investigators claim Thomas admitted to being involved while being questioned.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Thomas with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, two counts of armed criminal action, and two counts of tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution. Thomas is being held on a $750,000 cash-only bond.
