ST. LOUIS – A man accused of running a red light shortly before a crash that killed a child in St. Louis last year now faces a criminal charge.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office has charged Orlando Brickley Sanford Jr., 25, with one count of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the crash.
The crash happened on April 17, 2024, in St. Louis’ Mark Twain neighborhood, near the intersection of Union and Bircher boulevards.
According to a probable cause statement obtained by FOX 2, Brickley collided with a vehicle that was transporting a child, who was ejected from the vehicle upon impact.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video of the crash, which revealed that Brickley violated a red-light traffic signal before he entered the intersection. An accident reconstruction team estimated his speed around 57-62 miles per hour, which is deemed excessive for that area.
The probable cause statement notes that Brickley remained at the scene after the crash and identified himself to police as one driver involved.
A warrant for Brickley’s arrest was issued Wednesday, according to Missouri court records. A judge has ordered no bond for Brickley upon arrest.
