ST. LOUIS – A man faces felony charges in a St. Louis murder case, nearly two months after the victim was fatally shot near an abandoned house.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office has charged Deandre Maurice Johnson, 31, with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the case.

Charges stem from a shooting that occurred on Dec. 15, 2024, in the 4900 block of St. Louis Avenue in St. Louis’ Kingshighway East neighborhood.

According to a probable cause statement obtained by FOX 2, the victim was killed in front of an abandoned house just moments after Johnson allegedly left a store with the handle of his gun sticking outside of his pocket. Authorities reviewed surveillance video from the store and the scene, including footage of the shooting.

The St. Louis Police Department reports that 22-year-old Kyle Fitzgerald died in the shooting.

On Wednesday, SLMPD reported that a warrant was issued for Johnson’s arrest, noting that he was in custody for an unrelated 2021 homicide case.
