ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Louis County man has been charged with murder after his accomplice was killed in self-defense during an assault in Berkeley.

According to the Berkeley Police Department’s probable cause statement, the incident occurred on Oct. 20 at a home on Abbott Drive.

Police said Ch’Yance Ford and Jordan Howard both went to the home armed and confronted the victim. Howard had a black pistol with an extended magazine and switch attachment on the back, while Ford was in possession of a small rifle with a large drum-style magazine.

Ford and Howard both allegedly attacked the victim, striking him with their fists and guns.

Police said another resident of the home shot and killed Howard in defense of the victim, himself, and others in the residence. Ford ran away but returned a short time later to retrieve Howard’s gun.

Ford was later arrested. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Ford with second-degree murder for Howard’s death, as well as second-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence. Ford remains jailed on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
