ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Louis City man is accused of setting a car ablaze last fall in Shrewsbury.
According to the Shrewsbury Police Department’s probable cause statement, the fire was set during overnight hours on Nov. 17, 2024, in the 7200 block of Weil Avenue.
Police were called to assist the fire department with a vehicle fire shortly before 2:50 a.m. Officers arrived to find a 2019 Chevrolet Trax fully engulfed in flames. The truck, valued at $8,000, was totaled.
Security footage from a nearby business shows a man approach truck with a gas can, ignite the vehicle, and walk away. Investigators said the same video shows the suspect, identified as Henry D. Robinson, arriving at the scene in a vehicle registered to his mother.
Robinson was later detained and questioned. Police said Robinson admitted to being the individual in security video stills and said he was in the area that morning but did not start the fire.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Robinson with knowingly burning or exploding and first-degree property damage. Robinson was jailed on a $30,000 cash-only bond. He’s due in court for a preliminary hearing on Monday, May 19.
