ST. LOUIS – A man who staged auto accidents and committed insurance fraud was sentenced today.
According to court documents, Adrian Peebles staged auto accidents from September 2021 to January 2023.
The office of the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri claimed that Peebles staged these incidents primarily at night in remote areas. Prosecutors say Peebles went to emergency rooms, saying he had “pain that required expensive tests that never identified any particular injury,” according to his plea agreement.
Peebles suggested that his payments from the vehicle insurance companies be made to him instead of the hospital. Prosecutors also said Peebles never paid his medical bills.
From 2021 to 2023, Peebles’ scheme cost insurance companies $107,951. He is now 32 years old and pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud in January.
