ST. LOUIS – A man was left dead after a shooting in north St. Louis late Tuesday night.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD), the shooting took place around 11:30 p.m. on the 5000 block of Vernon Avenue, near N. Kingshighway Boulevard, in north St. Louis’ Academy/Sherman Park neighborhood.
When officers arrived on the scene of the shooting, they found the man suffering from a gunshot wound. Police said they transported the man to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
The shooting marks St. Louis City’s 27th homicide of the year. During this time last year, there had been 44 homicides in the city.
