ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – One man died and two others are hurt after a wrong-way crash involving four vehicles Monday evening on Interstate 64 in west St. Louis County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 79-year-old man from Beaufort, Missouri, died in the collision.

Two other men inside one of the three other cars, a 23-year-old and 24-year-old, suffered minor and moderate injuries. Those two men were from the state of Louisiana, according to the MSHP crash report.

Investigators say three drivers were heading eastbound on two lanes of I-64 when they neared one vehicle heading in the wrong way, westbound in the eastbound lanes.

According to the crash report, the front of the wrong-way vehicle, initially struck one eastbound vehicle, which went into the path of a second eastbound vehicle and struck it. The wrong-way vehicle then struck a third eastbound vehicle involved in the crash.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. MSHP has not disclosed any other details around the crash.

MSHP Troop C, which covers much of the St. Louis region, is investigating the crash.
