ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Louis County man is in custody for leading police on a high-speed chase while behind the wheel of a stolen car.

According to the St. Ann Police Department’s probable cause statement, the chase happened on Jan. 30 when a police sergeant noticed a 2013 Dodge Avenger that had been reported stolen.

The sergeant attempted to attach a GPS tracking device to the Avenger but failed. He then switched on his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver sped off.

Another officer attempted to disable the vehicle with a spike strip near St. Henry Road. The driver of the stolen car swerved and drove toward the officer, who had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.

Police said the driver, later identified as Deonbre I. Britt (age not provided), continued on Ashby Road to Midland Boulevard to Lindbergh Boulevard to Old St. Charles Road and finally to Adie Road, where he blasted through a school zone in excess of 50 miles per hour.

According to police, Britt avoided another set of spike strips and nearly struck another St. Ann officer.

Britt eventually stopped at The Crossings at Northwest Plaza and was arrested, police said.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Britt with two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and one count of resisting arrest. He remains jailed on a $50,000 cash-only bond.

Britt has a bond reduction scheduled for Feb. 10 and a preliminary hearing on Feb. 26.
