HENRY COUNTY, Mo. – A man operating a lawn mower fell into a private pond in rural Missouri just moments before he drowned Friday afternoon, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The incident happened in a private area of Henry County, Missouri, about an hour and half south of Kansas City.

Investigators say Carroll was operating a lawn mower in performance of work duties. While operating at the highest point of an enbankment, the vehicle lost traction and slid sideways down an enbankment toward a private pond.

The lawn mower overturned at the edge of the pond bank, causing the vehicle and Carroll to fall inside the pond. Investigators say he was pinned underneath the surface before he could be recovered.

MSHP Troop A in western Missouri is handling the investigation.
