ST. LOUIS – A 38-year-old St. Louis man is facing charges after stealing several containers of laundry detergent from a Dollar General store Wednesday.
According to court documents, Bennie Shelton walked into a Dollar General along North Grand Boulevard and asked an employee where the laundry detergent was. When he was shown they were behind the cashier counter, Shelton allegedly walked behind the counter and put eight bottles of detergent in a duffle bag.
He began to walk out when the employee confronted him. Shelton then pulled out a gun and left, without returning the items.
Shelton admitted to stealing the detergent when he was arrested. According to court records, he had prior felony convictions and his gun had the serial number removed.
The 38-year-old is facing charges of first-degree robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, armed criminal action, and possession of a defaced firearm. He is being held without bond.
