MAPLEWOOD, Mo. – For Home Sweet Home, things turned sour over the weekend.

The non-profit that provides home furnishings for those in need had a sprinkler pipe burst Sunday, resulting in over $12,000 worth of damage to mattresses, dressers, and pillows.

All donated items had to be immediately discarded.

“It’s just so upsetting,” Home Sweet Home Communications Director Katy Trimble said. “To see all that be taken to the landfill, I mean, it’s so heartbreaking.”

With the pipe now fixed and clean-up completed, it’s back to standard operations for the organization that has assisted over 6,000 families in the past nine years. Community support included over 100 pillows donated since the setback.

“Almost anytime something goes wrong here, it tends to be like one step back, two steps forward,” Operations Director Sean Ballard added.

The facility’s 13,000-square-foot warehouse, located at 10 Sunnen Dr. in Maplewood, accepts donations weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
