VALLEY PARK, Mo. – The discovery of several military medals in a pile of trash in Valley Park has prompted Harry Chapman to find their rightful owner.
“If I lost my medals, I’d hope somebody would put the time and effort in to get them returned to me,” he said.
Chapman is a U.S. Army veteran. That’s why his friend Bruce Jones brought the medals to the Valley Park resident.
“I just definitely didn’t want it to go in a dumpster,” Jones added.
The name on the awards is Joseph Ramoscruz. There are recognitions for Army achievement medals and an Army accommodation medal.
A NATO medal related to the International Security Assistance Force indicates the soldier served in Afghanistan.
Chapman has turned to several military organizations for help, but those efforts have yet to lead to answers. He plans on holding onto the medals until a rightful owner can be identified.
“Every soldier out there that’s received any medal has earned them,” Chapman said.
Jones added, “I’m still hoping the gentleman is alive and wants to display these on his wall. I don’t know how they came about getting thrown away, but I don’t think they deserved the landfill.”
