MISSOURI – 2025 marks a milestone for the state of Missouri and Southwest: 40 years of service to the state and 10 years of the state’s very own “Missouri One” plane.
In April of 2015, the airline company announced the production of the “Missouri One” plane in celebration of 30 years serving the state. Although it has an official title, the Boeing 737-700 plane flys publicly with passengers every day.
“This year, we will celebrate 40 years of service to the state, and we appreciate the longstanding support of communities throughout the region, which have helped us grow into becoming Missouri’s largest airline,” a Southwest Airlines representative said.
The plane, which is decorated with the Missouri flag, is one of 11 states to have their own aircraft. Other states include Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Maryland, Louisiana, Texas, Illinois, California, Florida, and Tennessee.
“We’ve always valued the enduring partnership between the state of Missouri and Southwest Airlines,” former Gov. Jay Nixon said at the time of the unveiling in 2015. “This magnificent plane will showcase the Show-Me State’s aerospace strength around the world.”
Southwest began servicing Kansas City in 1982, adding St. Louis to their list three years later in 1985.
