BOONE COUNTY, Mo. – Missouri Task Force 1, the state’s urban search and rescue task force, will deploy teams to North Carolina to offer assistance in response to Tropical Storm Debby.

Missouri Task Force 1’s Type III team is heading to Raleigh in anticipation of a hurricane-strength tropical storm. Some spots of North Carolina and South Carolina, specifically communities further east, could see around eight inches of rain over the next several days and the tropical storm could reach top speeds up to 50 miles per hour, according to Nexstar affiliate WNCN.

The Missouri team will consist of 35 members and 10 ground-support personnel. Their main goal is to offer support for potential water rescue operations.

Missouri Task Force 1 will meet with Pennsylvania and New Jersey’s Tennessee Task Force 1 teams near Raleigh, staging in the area there until requested for specific missions.

Missouri’s team deployed from Boone County at 2 a.m. Wednesday and expects to reach Raleigh by Wednesday evening.
