MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – A St. Louis County woman started crying after winning the top prize on a “$1,000,000 Black Diamond” scratchers ticket.

The winner bought the ticket from Schnucks, located at 2030 Dorsett Road in Maryland Heights, after deciding to use a different machine from the one she usually uses.

“That’s where I shop and every once in a while, I’ll get a lottery ticket,” she said. “I thought, ‘You know what? I’m going to do this machine.’”

The winner waited until the next morning to scratch off the ticket while she was relaxing at home with her husband.

“I scratched the first one, and it was $50,000!” she said.

They were both excited by the $50,000 prize, but they were shocked to discover they’d won the $1 million prize after scratching off the rest of the ticket.

“He went ballistic! I thought he was going to fall off the couch!” she said. “And, of course, I remained calm and started crying!”

The couple waited to recover a bit from the shock of winning before calling and playing a joke on their children.

“We started off and I said, “You know your dad and I have been married a long time,” she said. “We had to keep them going for a little bit!”

However, it wasn’t long before they revealed the exciting news, and their children were equally shocked.

“My youngest was just sitting there with his mouth open. He couldn’t believe it!” she said.
