MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — A new documentary will be filmed in Maryland Heights and surrounding areas starting next week, featuring the story of a St. Charles resident.

According to a news release, the project “Queen of the Base” tells the story of St. Charles resident Zamzama “ZZ” Safi, an Afghan refugee who escaped to the U.S. after risking her life to help the U.S. and coalition forces after the fall of Kabul in 2021.

St. Louis area filmmakers who built their careers in Los Angeles will be using the Missouri film tax credit to shoot the project.

Filmmakers of Covered Bridge Studios and Silver Guardian Productions aim to establish Missouri as a “serious player in the film industry,” according to the press release.

The production will also feature the work of ten-time Emmy Award-winning director of photography Thom McCallum.
