WEST PLAINS, Mo. — A 57-year-old man from O’Fallon, Missouri, died after drowning in floodwaters in West Plains on Friday amid flash flooding hitting the Ozarks.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the man’s car went into the water in Howell Creek near Missouri Avenue and was washed away from the roadway. The man got out of the vehicle and ultimately drowned in the floodwaters.
The West Plains Fire Department recovered the body from the water and the victim was pronounced dead by the acting Howell County Coroner. This is the first drowning for in MSHP Troop G in 2025.
The man’s vehicle has not been recovered as of the writing of this article.
