O’FALLON, Mo. – The plan to develop a new sports complex on a 23-acre site in O’Fallon is moving forward.

“Most recent council meeting, we did approve the site plan, which includes two hotels, as well as a 160,000-square-foot sports complex, a 40,000-square-foot retail center, plus an outdoor park and bourbon garden,” Director of Economic Development Patrick McKeehan said.

The strip of land along N. Bryan Road just south of Interstate 70 is being developed by Playfield Commons LLC of Cape Girardeau, which has agreed to fund roadway improvements as part of the plan.

According to McKeehan, the developer is talking about digging by summer and being fully operational by 2026.

It seems like a right move for a growing city. O’Fallon has grown from 19,000 people in 1990 to 94,000 today. Numbers are expected to be over 100,000 by 2030.

When fully operational, the complex is estimated to bring in $20 million to $40 million annually.

“It’s proximity to the highway—so easy access for our users coming into the site,” McKeehan added. “The location is in relation to our justice center, so you’ve got public safety support right on site, and the idea that we’ll have two hotels right on site for our visitors.”
