ST. LOUIS – A suspected carjacker who led police on a pursuit from St. Louis City to Spanish Lake made his first court appearance Thursday afternoon.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the carjacking happened around 2:45 p.m. on March 18 near the intersection of North Market and Hadley streets in the Old North St. Louis neighborhood.

Police said a 32-year-old woman was sitting in her car when Willie A. Slick approached and pointed a gun at her. Slick demanded the woman’s property and her car.

The woman got out of her car and Slick drove off in the vehicle, police said.

Police were able to track a cell phone in the vehicle and spotted the stolen car leaving a salvage yard in the 3800 block of Cote Brilliante Avenue.

Slick sped off as police closed in, blowing through traffic lights and driving on the wrong side of streets before getting on Interstate 70. Police said Slick sideswiped a Toyota while on the interstate.

Police followed Slick to Spanish Lake before they were able to spike the vehicle, ending the chase in the 1300 block of Dunn Road. Slick was taken into custody without further incident.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Slick, 34, with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, resisting arrest, and leaving the scene of an accident.
