COLUMBIA, Ill. – One person is dead after a fire Saturday afternoon near Columbia, Illinois.
Firefighters responded to a fully-involved structure fire Saturday around noon in the 1200 block of Mule Road.
Investigators tell FOX 2 that someone was trapped inside a property. Due to the intensity of heat and flames, firefighters were forced out of the building for some time. At the fire’s peak, heavy smoke could be seen for several miles.
Once the fire was controlled, one victim was found deceased.
The Columbia Volunteer Fire Department and Prairie Du Pont Fire and Rescue were among the agencies that responded to the scene.
