JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Gov. Mike Parson says his successor must make childcare a priority next year.

According to Missouri’s Business Community, the state is losing out on more than $1 billion due to a lack of childcare. Of Missouri’s 114 counties, 94 of them are in a childcare desert, causing employees to leave voluntarily to take care of their kids.

With many parents left with a decision to quit their job to watch their child, or pay $10,000 to $15,000 a year for childcare, Parson says it’s a problem the next governor will have to deal with.
