ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A quo warranto petition aiming to unseat a St. Louis County Councilman over a nepotism claim was officially withdrawn on Thursday.
The petition had challenged Dennis Hancock’s authority to hold a role on the St. Louis County Council after recent allegations of nepotism.
Prior to the petition being withdrawn, a court ruling had been scheduled for Friday.
In August, following the allegations, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell filed an order to prevent Hancock from acting as St. Louis County Councilmember. Hours later, a judge issued an order allowing Hancock to stay in his role.
Hancock later told FOX 2 that he admitted to trying to hire a family member, but he also contends that family member was never officially hired.
Hancock has been serving as a county councilman for District 3 in St. Louis County for several years and he was formerly the mayor of Fenton, Missouri, from 2001-2013, according to a St. Louis County biography page.
