MEHLVILLE, Mo – Three people are in custody this morning after a lengthy high-speed chase overnight that started in south St. Louis County and ended in North City.

St. Louis County police say the suspects robbed the Quiktrip on Union Road and Reavis Barracks in the Lemay area. The suspects led authorities on a chase that lasted some 40 minutes before the suspects were finally taken into custody.

The chase ended, basically at Lillian and Robin in the Walnut Park East neighborhood of north St. Louis.

County police told FOX 2 that the three adult male suspects bailed from the Volkswagen Jetta they were in, and then they were caught by county police as they tried to run away.

Authorities tell us county police had to tase the driver as he tried to escape.

FOX 2 was told this all started about 2:40 a.m. this morning at the Quiktrip when the suspects robbed the store of an undetermined amount of cash and cigarettes.

Investigators say county police spotted the suspects’ car nearby, and that’s when the pursuit started. County police chased the suspects for some 40 minutes in various areas, including highways and city streets.

FOX 2 was told the chase hit speeds of some 120 miles per hour on I-70.

Finally, we were told St. Louis City police put down spike strips at Riverview and West Florissant.

The Jetta drove over them and then stopped at Lillian and Robin around 3:20 a.m., and one of the tires on the car was completely gone.

The suspects were arrested a short time later, and no officers were hurt during the incident. There are no reports of any serious injuries to the suspects either.

County police did recover what appeared to be evidence—possibly cigarettes—at the north city scene.

The investigation into this entire incident is still ongoing this morning.
