FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. – A police chief in Franklin County is finding a Valentine’s Day message getting traction on social media.
Chief Christopher Neace keeps his eyes on the New Haven community—but he’s also keeping them intrigued with posts from the police department.
“I tried to make my post a serious message but a funny picture. That way, if everything is so serious, people are going to scroll right past it,” he said.
Since starting his job in January, he has made a humorous “Star Wars”-related post when the winter storm hit his town.
But the Valentine’s Day post encourages those with exes, who might have outstanding warrants for some crime activity, to let the New Haven Police Department know.
“You will get something about bracelets but not the fuzzy ones,” Neace said. “Gag gift so have the fuzzy ones. Again, we can joke around. There’s a time to be serious but also a time to have fun.”
The post offers a free ride through the scenic backcountry of Franklin County for those ex-valentines with criminal activity.
Neace says he’ll continue to engage with the Franklin County community in creative ways.
“People have told me maybe they don’t like law enforcement or don’t like talking to law enforcement,” he said. “But they have come up to me, ‘With your posts, you seem so much more approachable,’ and that is our goal in law enforcement.”
