AFFTON, Mo. – Nearly three weeks after six bronze mausoleum doors were stolen from a cemetery in south St. Louis County, law enforcement says they’ve recovered one of the doors.
The doors were taken from the New Mount Sinai Cemetery in Affton, located on the 8300 block of Gravois Road.
The doors were first observed to be missing on Feb. 2, but it is currently unknown when the theft initially occurred. According to police, the doors are believed to weigh between 200 and 500 pounds and are described by cemetery caretakers as “priceless.” Online estimates price a pound of bronze around $2.
Police did not offer any specifics regarding the recovery of the door.
If anyone has any information on the theft or whereabouts of the remaining doors, they are advised to contact Officer Bechtold at mbechtold@stlouiscountymo.gov or call the Affton Southwest Precinct at (314) 615-4266.
Although there was not a picture of the exact doors that were taken, the St. Louis County Police Department posted a picture of doors that are similar to the ones that were stolen as an example:
