MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Almost three months after an officer-involved shooting in Maryland Heights, the police department has released audio and footage of the incident in addition to detailed recounts leading up to the shooting.

According to the briefing, a white Kia Soul and Hyundai Sonata failed to yield to police on Castillons Arcade Plaza in St. Louis County around 2 a.m. on Jan. 18. License plates of the Hyundai were recognized as stolen from the day prior.

Around an hour later, neighboring police in the Creve Coeur neighborhood were also met with a white Kia Soul and black Kia Soul failing to yield. Both vehicles were later confirmed to have been stolen.

When trying to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicles continued to flee. Eventually, both vehicles reached a cul-de-sac in Maryland Heights, and the driver of the white vehicle—which had its tires spiked—jumped into the backseat of the other car.

Police attempted to arrest both drivers when black Kia Soul struck one of the officers, and police fired several shots.

The officer struck by the vehicle was injured, and one of the suspects was injured. Both were transported to the hospital. The other suspect remains in custody.

According to police, the two suspects were 15 and 16 years old.

The investigation is still ongoing, officials noted.
