MADISON COUNTY, Ill. – Police are searching for a man Monday morning after an overnight pursuit that started in the Metro East and ended with gunshots in north St. Louis.
The pursuit reportedly began in Granite City overnight Monday morning when officers attempted to stop a white pickup truck with Texas license plates for a traffic issue. When the driver of the pickup truck did not pull over, a chase reportedly ensued with the Madison City police joining in before it crossed over the McKinley Bridge into north St. Louis.
The pursuit reportedly ended around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning when the pickup truck spun out in the area of Broadway and Ponce Avenue, near the Calvary Cemetery. Police indicated that at times during the pursuit, the truck reached speeds of around 100 mph.
Near the end of the chase, the pickup truck struck two police vehicles and shots were fired from someone inside the pickup truck, police said. The pickup truck would continue down the street before police say a person reportedly bailed out of the truck and ran away.
At this point, there is no description of the man police are searching for. A Madison Police Unit sustained damage from the chase but no injuries have been reported from the pursuit.
An investigation is ongoing. Granite City and Madison City Police are primarily handling the case.
