MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – A police pursuit involving two stolen vehicles ended dramatically in a quiet Maryland Heights neighborhood early Saturday morning, leaving one suspect critically injured and residents shaken.
The chase escalated when one of the stolen vehicles struck a police officer during the pursuit. The officer was transported to a local hospital, treated for injuries, and later released.
The pursuit concluded on Jonesdale Court, a dead-end street where both stolen vehicles came to a stop. One neighborhood resident who witnessed the incident described the surreal experience, saying, “It was quite bizarre; it was literally like I’m turning on the TV, and this is what I see. But it wasn’t! It was right here, and I’ve lived here for 30 years.”
According to witnesses, the chase ended with a barrage of gunfire.
“They pulled down our street, which happens to be a dead-end street. So, no place to go. I heard 8 to 10 gunshots, and the black car just came to a rolling stop at the back end of a police car,” the resident said. “The police tape came out, and the street was flooded [with law enforcement.] It felt like I was watching a movie, legitimately watching a movie, a television show.”
The driver of one stolen vehicle sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Meanwhile, another suspect was reportedly taken into custody.
“And then a little while later, I saw about four policemen escorting somebody in handcuffs,” the resident said.
The Maryland Heights Police Department Detective Bureau is leading the investigation, which is still in its early stages. Officials have not released further details but confirmed that a press conference is scheduled for Monday afternoon to provide updates.
