ARNOLD, Mo. – The Arnold Rec Center hosted a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) to help those in need after severe storms swept across the state.

On March 14, the city of Arnold was hit by one of the 14 confirmed tornadoes that night.

“It was really devastating when I woke up the next morning and saw everything,” storm victim Kelly Sommerhauser, said. “Still to this day, you know, I’m not at home and then I go home, and I think, ‘Aw, it’s not a dream. It really happened.’”

State agencies and organizations are partnering to help those like Kelly all across the state.

“It’s a one stop shop for disaster survivors to where they can come and receive some financial assistance if their homes have enough damage. They can receive information, referrals, emergency supplies. And anything to help them start their road to recovery,” Melissa Friel, the preparedness division manager at the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency, said.

“The Red Cross is proud to go all over Missouri, especially here in Arnold. To help people connect with resources that are available to help them start their recovery process,” Tina Davis, community disaster program manager at the American Red Cross, said.

Storm victim Michael Rethmeyer is grateful for these resources.

“I’ve got a lot of good information. The Red Cross is going to come out and do an Assessment of my home to see how much damage I actually have. I showed them the pictures of my home and they said I have extreme damage,” Rethmeyer said.

The main message from the American Red Cross and other organizations is that they want those in need to seek help.

“Never give up hope. There’s a lot of people that care about them and they’re there to help them on their journey to recovery,” Davis said.

“We want to help them build resilience. We want to support them during their time of need. And I really am just so happy to see everyone out here together just providing support that these families desperately need,” Lakricia Cox of the American Red Cross said.

In Arnold, this particular resource center runs through 7 p.m. Monday evening, but they’ll be at it again Tuesday at the James J. Eagen Civic Center from noon until 7 p.m.

If you can’t make it out in person you can call the American Red Cross at 1-800-RedCross to get these same resources.
