ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Louis man was arrested last week for a stabbing in Lemay.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the stabbing happened on Nov. 13 in the 9900 block of Clyde Avenue.
Police said Matthew J. Federhofer (age not provided) was arguing with a woman when he pushed her and then stabbed the victim in her leg and her chest. The victim was stabbed in the leg a second time before she escaped.
The victim ran to a neighbor’s home for help while others called police. Federhofer ran off with the knife.
Police said the victim was hospitalized with serious injuries, including a punctured lung.
Meanwhile, a neighbor got in his vehicle, tracked Federhofer down, and brought him back to the scene, where police took him into custody.
Police said Federhofer had the knife in his pocket, which still had blood on it. He also admitted to stabbing the woman.
Federhofer was already out on bond for resisting arrest and first-degree property damage. Police said he also has prior convictions for fourth-degree assault, second-degree domestic assault, assault, and a miscellaneous weapons offense.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Federhofer with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He remains jailed on a $250,000 bond. Federhofer is due in court for a bond reduction hearing on Nov. 22 and a preliminary hearing on Dec. 16.
