ST. LOUIS – A former St. Louis Sheriff’s deputy is seeking court-ordered protection from the very man who once led his department.
St. Louis Sheriff Alfred Montgomery reportedly showed up unexpectedly at the deputy’s new job.
It’s not the first time Montgomery allegedly showed up at the deputy’s outside job. It happened Wednesday at the St. Louis County Circuit Court. Darry Wilson filed a restraining order this time.
“It’s baffling,” Bobby Bailey, Wilson’s attorney, said. “He was in shock that Sheriff Montgomery would be approaching his supervisor about his job that has nothing to do with anything in the city.”
Wilson says Sheriff Montgomery came in person to tell Wilson’s new boss that he suspects Wilson is trying to steal city workers and get them to move to the county.
“This is a continuation of harassment on the part of the Sheriff for the City of St. Louis,” Bailey said.
You may remember, Wilson is the same deputy who we’ve reported was also visited by the sheriff at Wilson’s security job at a gas station in south city. Wilson says the sheriff demanded his gun during the incident in January.
“He has no power whatsoever to take my weapon. That’s when I immediately called the police,” Wilson said at the time.
Wilson suspects the sheriff is retaliating because Wilson supported former Sheriff Vernon Betts. Wilson says he was forced to resign after Montgomery took over and claims he didn’t even receive his last paycheck.
Sheriff Montgomery did not respond to our text messages or our request to his media representative that we get his side of the story. So, we went to his office in the St. Louis Civil Courts Building. We asked him for a comment directly.
“This office is for evictions. If you want a show you need to go to Hollywood,” he told us.
FOX 2 also waited outside the building for Montgomery to give him another chance to respond. The sheriff walked away with his security detail and told us to stop following him. The show will continue in court, as a judge will rule on Wilson’s request for a restraining order.
