ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A man paroled in December 2023 from Missouri state prison became a one-man crime wave in 2024, suspected of committing several thefts across St. Louis County. Charges were filed in at least nine cases, but no-showed multiple court dates.
According to court documents obtained by FOX 2 News, Treveone T. Smith, 22, was arrested several times this year and has at least nine active cases against him in St. Louis County Circuit Court, with additional prosecutions and convictions dating back to 2019 in St. Charles County.
Calls to the Missouri Department of Corrections and the Division of Probation and Parole shed some light on this rinse-and-repeat offender.
Smith was charged with multiple car thefts and other stealing counts in St. Charles County and was eventually sentenced to probation. However, Smith violated the terms of his probation and was placed in custody of the DOC on July 6, 2022, and ordered to serve an eight-year prison term. Smith remained in state prison until he was paroled on Dec. 22, 2023.
Five weeks after his parole, police and prosecutors said Smith embarked on a six-month crime spree across St. Louis County.
In the earliest 2024 case, Smith is accused of breaking into an Overland HVAC business on Jan. 29 and stealing a safe containing $3,500 in cash and collector coins. Investigators tracked the vehicle used in the theft to Smith’s residence but were unable to arrest him because he was out of state at the time. Smith failed to appear at his October court date, and the judge issued a warrant for his arrest.
Law enforcement in Creve Coeur and Ladue allege Smith drove to Chaminade High School on Feb. 15 and stole credit cards from a vehicle parked on campus. Police did not specify if the victim was a student or employee at the school. Smith and an accomplice were later spotted on surveillance video at Schnucks stores in Ladue and Creve Coeur using the stolen cards to purchase groceries in the amounts of $411.90, $158.16, and $811.90. He failed to appear in court, and arrest warrants were filed against him in September and October.
On May 29, St. Louis County police said Smith broke into a vehicle parked in a strip mall in the 12400 block of Tesson Ferry Road, stole the owner’s debit card and other items, and used the debit card to purchase several hundred dollars’ worth of groceries from the Concord Schnucks. Police said Smith was arrested and confessed, and prosecutors said he skipped out on his court date.
On June 9, Chesterfield police allege Smith stole checks and currency from Bonhomme Presbyterian Church. The incident was recorded on surveillance video, leading investigators to make an arrest. Smith has a criminal summons to appear in court on Dec. 16.
Sunset Hills police said that on June 12, Smith stole a vehicle parked at Stieren Park and later used the victim’s stolen credit cards to make purchases at Schnucks stores in Ladue and Des Peres. He failed to appear in court in October.
On June 22, Smith is accused of breaking into a vehicle parked outside the Crestwood Government Center on Detjen Drive and stealing the victim’s wallet. Surveillance video shows Smith and others arrive at the parking lot in a black pickup truck and try car door handles to see if any vehicles were unlocked. The victim’s credit cards were used at the Kirkwood Target store to purchase gift cards in the amount of $819.48 and $206.
Exactly one week later, Crestwood police said Smith and others drove a white pickup truck to the Crestwood Bowl parking lot and that Smith broke into at least one car and stole cash. Smith was eventually charged in both thefts but no-showed his court dates.
On June 30, Smith allegedly committed thefts in Shrewsbury and Ladue. Shrewsbury police said Smith broke into a car parked at Wehner Park and stole at least three debit/credit cards. Those cards were used to purchase a pair of $400 prepaid Visa cards at a Dollar Tree store in Maplewood. Smith was charged and, once again, failed to appear for a scheduled October court date.
Finally, Ladue police said Smith drove to a gas station at Clayton and South Price roads and went up to a woman’s car parked at the pump while she was inside the business. Smith entered the victim’s car and stole her purse, which happened to contain more than $25,000 in jewelry. Security video was used to identify Smith and make an arrest. Police located some of the victim’s stolen items. Earlier this week, a St. Louis County Circuit Court judge issued a criminal summons ordering Smith to appear in court on Jan. 6, 2025.
Thus far in 2024, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Smith with one count of stealing – $25,000 or more; two counts of second-degree burglary; one count of stealing – $750 or more; three counts of first-degree property damage; one count of second-degree property damage; eight counts of fraudulent use of a credit/debit device; and seven counts of stealing.
Following our search of St. Louis County court records, FOX 2 News discovered Smith has two additional cases in Jackson County from March of this year. Arrest warrants were issued in March and April, respectively. Smith is being represented by public defenders in each county while those cases are adjudicated.
A spokesperson for the Missouri Department of Corrections said Smith was returned to state prison on Sept. 18 to continue serving his original 8-year sentence. FOX 2 is working to ascertain if Smith was arrested for any additional crimes and exactly when he was taken into custody for good.
