ST. LOUIS – Officer Nathan Spiess, 31, was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 70 while attempting to arrest a suspected car thief early this week.

In the aftermath of that event, Spiess suffered severe injuries to his leg, requiring it to be partially amputated.

On March 20, his former SLMPD partner, Colin Ledbetter, also injured in the line of duty, had the opportunity to share with FOX 2 on Spiess’s service to his community.

Now a few days later, Officer Spiess is beginning his road to recovery, with his family sharing a picture with him in the hospital.

Many, including The BackStoppers Inc., are offering their support for Spiess’s recovery.

His family has also set up a GoFundMe page, raising over $100k in donations from the community’s support.
