ST. LOUIS — Greater St. Louis, Inc. has introduced a new Downtown Public Safety Ambassadors program. Unarmed, uniformed security guards will patrol the streets, providing an additional layer of visible security.

These security workers will work along with law enforcement. They will patrol on foot, bicycle, and in marked vehicles.

“While we know that the hard work and additional patrols of the SLMPD have helped reduce the rate of crime Downtown, we also know that increasing the public safety presence Downtown with the ambassadors will add to the sense of security for everyone,” states Kurt Weigle, GSL’s Chief Downtown Officer.

Funding for the program comes from Greater St. Louis, Inc. investors, who have committed $5 million to support the initiative over the next three years. The Downtown Public Safety Ambassadors program is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the overall experience of those who live, work, and visit downtown St. Louis.
