SULLIVAN, Mo. – A semi-truck driver faces a felony charge after he left the scene of a deadly pedestrian crash on Interstate 44 in Sullivan, Missouri.

The Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Etem Missark, 60, of Orlando, Florida, with one count of leaving the scene of an accident (resulting in death).

The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. Monday in the eastbound lanes of I-44 near the 225-mile marker. Investigators have since identified Missark as the driver of the semi-truck that left the scene after the crash.

According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Missark is accused of hitting a pedestrian who was attempting to fix a tire on the side of I-44, in addition to the pedestrian’s vehicle. Court documents allege that Missark failed to maintain his lane and veered off the side of a roadway.

Missark also allegedly failed to report the crash and traveled out of state following the collision.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that Missark was taken into custody on Tuesday. His charge is a Class D felony in Missouri, which means he could face up to seven years behind bars of $500 in fines if convicted.
