JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Senate Democrats made history in Jefferson City Wednesday by filibustering for over 48 hours.
Since Monday afternoon, Democrats have held the floor in the Senate, waiting for Republicans to remove what they call “ballot candy” from the initiative petition legislation.
Just before 5 p.m., Republicans made a motion to send the bill back to the House. With only two days left in session, everyone is waiting to see how this year ends.
The Senate has adjourned and will be back in session Thursday morning. Now, eyes are on the House, which will make a decision tomorrow on what to do with the legislation. Under the Constitution, lawmakers must adjourn by 6 p.m. Friday.
Democrats say they are prepared to filibuster until the clock runs out.
