PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. — Severe weather swept through Rolla, Missouri, on Friday evening, leaving behind widespread damage to homes and businesses but no reported fatalities. A primary search of the area is now complete.
Significant damage was reported in the South Side Shopping area along Highway 63 and near the Forum and 10th Street corridor. A handful of residents were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The City of Rolla has activated its Emergency Operation Center and is working with local and regional agencies to manage recovery efforts. Officials say the cleanup and power restoration will take time.
A 24-hour shelter is open at First Baptist Church, 801 North Cedar. Officials are asking people to avoid calling 911 for non-emergencies as dispatchers are overwhelmed.
