ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – Authorities have issued a “shelter in place” order for some Metro East residents as Scott Air Force Base officials investigate a suspicious package.

A Scott AFB K-9 working dog identified a suspicious package around 9 a.m. Wednesday at the at the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Gate.

Scott Air Force Base says an immediate 1,000 foot cordon was put in place while investigating, affecting several housing residents nearby in Lincoln’s Landing.

Authorities in St. Clair County have notified several residents affected by the safety cordon to shelter in place for an undisclosed amount of time.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel are on scene and hope to secure the area. For on-base personnel, portions of South Drive near the Mascoutah Gate area are also closed as part of the cordon area.
