FT. LEONARD WOOD, Mo. – Law enforcement officials are investigating after a soldier was found dead overnight at Ft. Leonard Wood.

According to Ft. Leonard Wood law enforcement officials, the soldier was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at an on-post residence around 12:15 a.m. Friday.


Manchester Police Chief placed on administrative leave amid investigation

Officials have withheld the identity of the soldier and are working to notify family members.

Additional details around the death have not yet been disclosed. Ft. Leonard Wood law enforcement and the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division are investigating circumstances around the death.

Ft. Leonard Wood is a military training institution, around 140 miles southwest of St. Louis.
