ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – A manager at a Bob Evans in St. Charles has been charged with stealing over $5,000 from the restaurant and is avoiding police.
According to court documents, George Turner, age not identified, was charged for stealing money between an extended period of time in August at the restaurant located at 1998 Zumbehl Rd.
Reportedly, management told authorities they were notified by their finance department that multiple money drop-offs had never arrived into the designated bank account and were unaccounted for.
Management said the money drop-offs occur every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the same back location, and all the dates where the money drop-offs were missing involved Turner. Management told authorities the only one working on those dates was Turner, and he was only one with access to the money.
Authorities were told a total of five money drop-offs were missing; the total amount missing was $5,680. Additionally, on August 28, management said two employees saw Turner carrying multiple deposit bags.
Turner told the employees he would be gone, and the employees were in charge of the restaurant. After an extended period of time, the witnesses were unsure if he still had the deposit bags when he returned.
Police contacted the bank location for surveillance video during the dates of the money drop-offs and never observed them being dropped off.
St. Charles Police contacted Turner over the phone and set up an interview at the police department, but Turner never showed up. Police attempted to locate Turner at two addresses associated with him, but he was not found.
Additionally, Turner’s family was provided with the police officer’s contact information, but Turner has yet to contact the police department.
Turner is charged with stealing $750 or more, and an initial court appearance has been scheduled for January 24, 2025, at 8:30 a.m.
