ST. LOUIS — A new report from the gun safety group Everytown reveals that the number of guns stolen from cars in the U.S. has tripled since 2013. This study, which analyzed FBI crime data from 337 cities across 44 states, indicates a significant rise in these thefts.
The report also highlights that states with weaker gun safety laws experience nearly 18 times more gun thefts from vehicles compared to states with stricter regulations. Among the cities, St. Louis ranks in the top five for the highest number of vehicle gun thefts. In 2022 alone, there were 859 guns reported stolen from cars in St. Louis. Other cities making the top five include Memphis, Atlanta, Richmond, and San Antonio.
