ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – An employee at a south St. Louis County hockey club was charged on Monday with stealing thousands from the venue’s payroll.
According to court documents, Lance D. Kammien, age not provided, allegedly placed his son on the Meramec Sharks club payroll despite never having worked for the venue between 2021 and 2023.
Kammien’s son, between the ages of 16 and 18 at the time, was an active playing member of the team, but police said he never completed work for the venue.
Additionally, police said additional investigation revealed that although payment had been paid to Kammien’s son, the direst deposits went to a bank account in Kammien’s name.
According to police, the unauthorized payments totaled $26,120, with $25,235 paid from November 19, 2021 onward.
Allegedly, when the club’s owner and vice president confronted Kammien about the payments, police said his son was an employee but that he had been “overpaid.”
Kammien later turned himself in to the police and made no statement.
He has been charged with stealing $25,000 or more and has been summoned to appear in court on January 6 at 9 a.m.
