ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Police have arrested two teens accused of stealing a vehicle and shooting at officers during a prolonged pursuit last spring.
According to Mary Schmitt, a St. Louis County Police Department spokeswoman, the chase happened in the overnight hours of May 11, 2024.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department was alerted to a stolen vehicle in their jurisdiction around 2 a.m. thanks to a license plate reader. When officers arrived at the scene, they heard gunfire and saw the vehicle fleeing the area.
City police pursued the stolen car into the county, where local authorities continued the chase.
At one point during the chase, one of the suspects in the stolen car opened fire on county police vehicles.
Around 3 a.m., police said the stolen car stopped in the 9700 block of Winkler Drive, and the occupants got out.
Police said Ajhoni Carter, 18, pointed a gun in the direction of one of the officers, who fired a shot in Carter’s direction. Carter dropped a drum magazine, fled, and was later arrested.
Police said Devon Brison, 16, got out of the stolen car and attempted to flee, but he fell over and was arrested beside the vehicle. Police found a Glock 22 in a bag on the rear seat. They said Brison’s DNA was found on the grip of the handgun.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Brison with first-degree assault, first-degree assault – special victim, stealing – motor vehicle, and two counts of armed criminal action.
Carter was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree assault – special victim, stealing – motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and two counts of armed criminal action.
Both Brison and Carter are being held on $150,000 cash-only bonds. They’re due in court for bond reduction hearings on Feb. 10 and Feb. 11, respectively, and have preliminary hearings scheduled for March 4.
