ST. LOUIS – A federal jury has awarded a St. Louis father millions of dollars after his son was shot and killed by police nearly a decade ago.
The jury awarded Dennis Ball-Bay $18.75 million in connection with the death of his 18-year-old son, Mansur, in August of 2015. The incident garnered national attention.
Mansur was shot and killed by a St. Louis Metropolitan Police officer on Walton Avenue in the Fountain Park Neighborhood following a police raid and foot chase. The teen was accused of pointing a gun at another officer before the shooting.
Officers involved were not charged.
“My faith is what kept me going—my belief,” Dennis said Friday. “I knew that Mansur didn’t get justice. It was all about hope.”
Dennis’ attorney, Javad Khazaeli, added, “So ask yourself, why nine years? Justice is here, but justice took too long.”
Mansur was killed just a year after the unrest in Ferguson after the shooting death of Michael Brown by former officer Darren Wilson.
