ST. LOUIS — St. Louis is gearing up for another day of strong winds on Wednesday as another storm system moves across Illinois, bringing colder air and possible snow showers with it.

FOX 2 Extreme Weather Specialist, Chris Higgins said strong wind gusts up to 40 to 55 miles per hour are expected beginning late Wednesday morning into the early evening. By 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., the St. Louis region will experience the strongest gusts.

According to Higgins, very dry air and mild to warm temperatures with dry surface conditions bring a high fire threat and advises postponing any outdoor burning.

A dirty brown sky was also seen in St. Louis on Wednesday as blowing dust was lofted into the sky from Oklahoma, Texas, and the desert Southwest. The dust can be seen on a satellite image, and improvement is expected into the afternoon as it shifts into the east.

By Wednesday early afternoon, Illinois will see rain showers or even a thunderstorm as a fast and isolated cell moves through the state. The system brings a level 2 risk for the northeastern FOX 2 viewing area in Montgomery County, Fayette County, and Effingham County.

Higgins said much colder air will arrive tonight and brings a chance for a few snow showers overnight, but no accumulation is expected.
