ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man accused of fatally shooting his son near his grandchild last month is now behind bars.

Prosecutors have charged Tekeia Henderson, 48, with first-degree murder and armed criminal action amid the investigation. He faces felony charges in the death of his son, Demarko Henderson, 31.

The shooting happened on the evening of April 30 in the 5100 block of Lexington Avenue in the city’s Kingshighway West neighborhood.


Brother and sister killed in St. Louis County; charges filed

According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, an 11-year-old child found a neighbor and informed them that their father was killed. Police later responded to the home and found Demarko deceased with an apparent gunshot wound to his head.

The child reported that Tekeia shot Demarko during an argument.

Per court documents, Tekeia’s girlfriend was also a witness. She reported being aware of an argument, but in a separate room as shots were fired.

Court documents state that Tekeia was also accused of shooting Demarko in the leg in 2022, though charges were not filed in that incident.

According to court documents, Tekeia admitted to shooting his son, but claimed it was an accident. Court documents state his story “does not line up” with witness accounts or physical evidence.

Tekeia Henderson has been ordered to remain detained pending trial. A preliminary hearing over his charges is set for June 3.
